Strategic Plan

Shaping the Future of Children’s Healthcare Together

Over the course of 2025, we’re inviting everyone invested in child health to join us in building a strategy that reflects our shared priorities and values. Together, let’s build a future for children’s healthcare that we can all stand behind.

At Children’s Healthcare Canada, we believe that strategy development is not just about setting goals but about fostering a process that represents and respects the diverse voices that make up our sector. Our approach is grounded in collaboration. Over the course of 2025, we’re inviting everyone invested in child health to join us in building a strategy that reflects our shared priorities and values.

Child health in Canada has transformed dramatically over the last 25 years, and the next 25 will bring even more profound changes. Advances in technology, new models of care, and shifting demographics will impact child health deeply, creating both opportunities and challenges. Throughout 2025, we’ll explore future scenarios, test innovative strategies, set goals, gather feedback, and ultimately set a strategy for Children’s Healthcare Canada and its membership.

As we plan for this future, we want to ensure a diverse range of voices are shaping the direction we take. To reach as many perspectives as possible, we’re proactively asking for time on the agendas of our partner organizations’ and networks’ meetings. This will allow us to engage with you directly in spaces you already feel connected to, ensuring you have opportunities to contribute without needing to carve out additional time.

Throughout the year, we’ll offer numerous opportunities for engagement, from co-design workshops to feedback surveys. We’ll ensure you always have the context required to contribute; you just bring your expertise. For each opportunity, we have also identified an alternative format so that you have options for how you want to engage. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable participating, whether they bring decades of experience or are new to this work. Together, let’s build a future for children’s healthcare that we can all stand behind.

Dream Big for Kids (2022-2025)

The global COVID-19 pandemic has had a measurable impact on the health and wellbeing of Canada’s 8 million children and youth. As a national body representing healthcare organizations serving children and youth, our focus and mandate have never been sharper.

Our goals have adapted to meet the needs of the members we serve. To do this, we must:

  • pursue a COVID-19 recovery strategy that puts children at the centre of policies and investments
  • continue to support the innovative and ground-breaking work taking place across the country
  • double down on efforts to create more seamless systems of care for children, youth, and their families

Building on the priorities first identified in 2018, our focus continues to be on bringing value to members, partners, and stakeholders.

We strive to be a credible source of evidence and resources to inform improvements in health systems for children and youth. As always, our aim is to earn the trust and respect of our members and community by:

  • learning from and brokering local, national, and international subject matter expertise and evidence from within our membership and partnership networks
  • embracing a non-partisan approach to our policy and advocacy
  • collaborating with other champions for children’s health and well being

This will enable us to maximize our impact and catalyze meaningful change for children and youth in Canada.

"The time to make children and youth a priority for Canada is now. Working on behalf of healthcare delivery organizations serving kids, Children’s Healthcare Canada is well positioned as a trusted source of evidence and expertise to influence and inform children’s health, healthcare and health systems.”
- Emily Gruenwoldt, CEO, Children's Healthcare Canada
