Child Health Advocacy

When we invest in the health of kids, we invest in the health of Canada.

The healthcare systems serving children, youth and families in Canada are undersized to meet the needs of a growing and increasingly medically complex population. As a result, there are measurable human and financial costs accruing that must be a focus of the leaders of this country.

Recent polling by Abacus Data reveals that 4 in 10 parents worry they will not be able to access timely care for their sick children. Today in Canada, many children wait longer than adults for essential care. Long waits impact children’s health outcomes and cost healthcare systems billions of dollars each year, as care often becomes more complex.

We are proud of our coordinated approach with Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations as we call for strategic investments by government and philanthropic partners to right-size health systems serving children, youth, and their families across Canada. View our joint ad featured in the Globe & Mail and The Hill Times.

A Call to Action

Building Stronger Healthcare Systems for Canada's Children and Youth

It will take everyone – Members of Parliament, corporate and philanthropic partners, community and healthcare leaders – working together to improve children’s health outcomes in Canada. The issues are complex, but better is possible. Here are our three priority recommendations:

Beyond Bandaids: Delivering Healthcare Fit for Kids

Children’s Healthcare Canada is on a mission to “right-size” health systems serving children and youth.

From coast to coast to coast, and across the continuum of care, children, youth and their families are experiencing long and costly delays for essential and time-sensitive healthcare services. In many jurisdictions, children are now waiting longer for these services than adults.

A growing body of evidence underscores the impacts associated with decades of underinvestment in children’s health. As a wealthy nation, Canada has all the resources necessary to meaningfully and measurably improve children’s health and wellbeing, but what will it take? And where should we prioritize investments to yield greatest impact?
